The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Sunday.
-- Zambian President Edgar Lungu has nominated current Speaker of the Parliament Patrick Matibini to continue in the same capacity as the House commences its sittings next week.
Lungu also nominated former Minister of Tourism Catherine Namugala as the deputy speaker. (Zambia Daily Mail)
-- The Zambian government has warned of charging people thinking of breaking away from Zambia with treason.
Reports have emerged that some traditional leaders in northwestern part of the country have resolved to support discussions on seceding from Zambia after losing the last general elections. (Times of Zambia)
-- Zambia's main opposition political party has warned citizens to brace themselves for hard times and expect more suffering under the next five years.
Douglas Syakalima, a senior member of the United Party for National Development (UPND), said Zambians will now realize how clues the current government was in managing the economy.
The official, who is special advisor to the party's president, said it was the ordinary citizens who will feel the pangs of misery in the coming years.
Last week, newly elected Finance Minister Felix Mutati said reviving the country's economy would be a painful journey, requiring a lot of sacrifice from citizens.
Zambia is expected to agree a deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a financing program of about 1.2 billion U.S. dollars before the end of this year. (The Post) Endit
