Tokyo stocks extend gains in morning on bets against Fed rate hike

Tokyo stocks continued to advance Friday morning as poor U.S. retail data had investors betting against an imminent rate hike by the U.S. Federal Reserve, with shares here tracking gains made overnight on Wall Street.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 63.21 points, or 0.39 percent, from Thursday to 16,468.22.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 5.57 points, or 0.43 percent, to 1,306.68.
