Armenian parliament appoints new Attorney General

Xinhua, September 15, 2016 Adjust font size:

Armenia's parliament on Thursday voted to appoint Artur Davtyan as the country's new Attorney General, local Armenpress reported.

Davtyan, 38, will succeed Gevorg Kostanyan, 39, who resigned over health in August after about two years in office.

Shortly after the vote of appointment, Davtyan met briefly with the press, announcing his top priority is to do everything to enhance public trust. He noted he will work to make decisions of the prosecutor's office more transparent.

"We are going to work day and night to meet all expectations," he added.

Davtyan's appointment is the latest in a series in Armenia in recent weeks. On Tuesday, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan appointed Karen Karapetyan as the country's new prime minister. Endi
