Kenyan police arrest woman over links with police station attack

Kenya's anti-terrorism police on Wednesday arrested the widow of slain and controversial Muslim cleric Sheikh Aboud Rogo over alleged links with Sunday's attack by three women on a police station in the port city of Mombasa.

More than ten police officers raided the home of Hania Said Saggar in the coastal area of Kikambala, Kilifi county, in the evening.

The police said they intercepted communication between Sagaar and the three women who were killed by police when they stormed the police station on Sunday, injuring two officers.

According to the police, Saggar was in constant communication with one of the female attacker Ramla Abdilrahman Hussein, who was also the mastermind of Sunday's attack.

"We are holding her for alleged role in the Sunday attack. We believe she was part of wide plot to carry out the attack in the coastal town," an unnamed senior anti-terrorism police officer said.

Saggar is believed to have been radicalized after her husband Rogo was gunned down in Bamburi, Mombasa county in 2012.

Rogo, then chief cleric at a mosque, was facing charges of weapons possession and being a recruiter for the Somali Islamist militant group Al-Shabaab.

Al-Shabaab militants have carried out several bloody attacks in Kenya in recent years.

The attack on the police station in Mombasa came as relative calm has been witnessed in Kenya's coastal region for the last two years. Endit
