Burkina Faso commits to preserve the Ozone Layer

Xinhua, September 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

Burkina Faso's Environment, Green Economy and Climate Change ministry has reiterated the government's commitment to preserve the Ozone layer.

The announcement was made on Tuesday in the run up to celebrations to mark the World Ozone Day which will be held on Sept. 16, 2016.

The statement said Burkina Faso will mark the day with awareness activities during which the government will urge every citizen to commit to proper waste management to preserve the Ozone layer and the climate.

It added that Burkina Faso was firmly committed to taking necessary actions to reduce the impact of human activities on the Ozone layer, besides controlling the greenhouse gas emissions which have contributed to the warming of the planet.

Burkina Faso's environment ministry equally noted that the government understood the negative consequences of climate change such as floods, droughts, loss of crop harvests as well as livestock and fluctuations in the climatic conditions.

The ministry further reiterated its active participation in the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement whose ratification is ongoing. Endit
