Japan's parliament committees pass resolutions to condemn DPRK nuke test

Xinhua, September 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

Japan's parliament condemned the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) for conducting its fifth nuclear test in separate resolutions adopted Wednesday by two of its committees.

According to a resolution adopted by the House of Representatives' Foreign Affairs Committee, the DPRK's nuclear test was a "reckless" act. The resolution said the act not only seriously challenged the international nuclear non-proliferation regime but also posed direct threat to Japan's national security.

The Japanese government will seek to strengthen pressure over the DPRK through unilateral measures as well as through the U.N. Security Council's responses, said the resolution.

Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida said at the committee meeting that Japan will cooperation with international society to make the DPRK "feel the price for its provocative acts."

The House of Councillors' Foreign and Defense Affairs Committee adopted a similar resolution later in the day.

The DPRK conducted its fifth nuclear test last week. Japan's Lower House and Upper House of the National Diet passed resolutions to condemn the DPRK following its previous four nuclear tests. Endit
