Princeton ranked No.1 U.S. university for sixth straight year

Princeton was ranked the best U.S. university for a sixth straight year, followed by Harvard, according to the annual U.S. News & World Report 2017 Best Colleges Rankings issued Tuesday.

The University of Chicago, which was ranked ninth several years ago, tied with Yale University for the third best national college this year.

The survey assessed more than 18,000 U.S.-based colleges and universities, of which 1,374 were ranked.

Meanwhile, Willams College was ranked the top liberal arts college for the 14th consecutive year, followed by Amherst, Wellesley and Swarthmore.

Among public universities, the University of California at Berkeley remained at the top of the ranks for the 19th year in a row, followed by the University of California at Los Angeles and the University of Virginia.

The colleges and universities receive rankings based on some 15 measures of academic quality, including retention, graduation rates, faculty resources, financial resources, alumni donations and test scores of incoming students and admission rates.
