Singapore confirmed 11 new cases of locally transmitted Zika virus infection on Sunday, bringing the total number of Zika infections in the city state to 329, the Ministry of Health (MOH) and National Environment Agency (NEA) said in a joint statement.
MOH said among these newly reported cases, one case is linked to the Elite Terrace cluster. The other 10 cases have no known links to any existing cluster.
MOH confirmed that eight pregnant women have been confirmed to have Zika. Their doctors are following up closely with them to provide support and counselling.
NEA is continuing with vector control operations and outreach efforts in the cluster areas. As of Sept. 10, a total of 202 breeding habitats have been found and destroyed in the cluster areas, of which 121 are from homes, and 81 from common areas/other premises.
Aligned to dengue control approach, NEA will continue to work with stakeholders and the community to reduce mosquito breeding, as vector control is key to reducing the transmission of Zika in the community, the joint statement added. Endite
