Consumption services set to dominate equity investment in China: report

Consumption services is the top industry attracting equity investment in China and is expected to dominate the financing market for many years to come, according to an industrial report.

The investment volume un the consumption services sector reached about 16.9 billion U.S. dollars through 395 deals in the first half of 2016, accounting for 71 percent of total investment during the period, according to a report released by Dow Jones and China Association of Private Equity during the ongoing 19th China International Fair for Investment & Trade.

The sector has become a magnet for investors as its volume share in total investment rose from 21 percent in 2006 to 71 percent in 2016 H1.

In contrast, information technology has lost its appeal, with its volume share in total investment dropping from 25 percent in 2006 to seven percent in 2016 H1.

Consumption has become a key driver of China's economic growth and accounted for 73.4 percent of total GDP in the first six months of this year. Endi
