Unemployment rate in Albania drops to 15.5 pct in Q2

The unemployment rate in Albania went down to 15.5 percent during the second quarter of 2016, thus marking a decline of 1.1 percentage points compared to the first quarter this year, Albania's Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) said Friday in its Labor Force Survey.

According to INSTAT, employment in Albania was on the rise in Q2 in both annual and quarterly terms. In annual terms -- comparing the second quarter 2016 with the same quarter of 2015 -- the employment rate saw an increase of 6.8 percent.

Meanwhile, official statistics showed that compared to the previous quarter, the employment rate increased by 1.8 percent.

INSTAT data also said that over the second quarter of 2016, the labor force participation rate for the population aged 15 to 64 was 65.8 percent.

About 38.9 percent of those were engaged in the agricultural sector and 24.9 percent in the market services sector, official data showed. Endit
