Xinhua, September 8, 2016 Adjust font size:

China and The Gambia are working closely to push bilateral relations to a higher level, Chinese ambassador to the West African country has said.

"We have all confidence in the potential and bright future of our bilateral relations, and we are working for our relations to grow from strength to strength," said ambassador Zhang Jiming who presented his credentials to The Gambia's vice president Isatou Njie Saidy early this month.

According to the Chinese diplomat, the Chinese government has attached great importance to its relationship with The Gambia and that bilateral relations are now at a dynamic moment of development.

"The Gambia and China have exchanged views on progress made since March this year, citing specifically the diplomatic cooperation which both countries are satisfied with and also the progress made over the past few months," he explained.

In August this year, 12 Gambian students obtained Chinese government scholarships to pursue studies in Chinese universities.

The two countries resumed diplomatic ties in March this year. Endit
