The following are highlights of South African major media outlets on Thursday.

-- The long-awaited procurement of nuclear power stations will kick off on September 30, when the government issues the formal request for proposals, Energy Minister Tina Joemat-Pettersson said in Parliament on Wednesday.

In June 2014, President Jacob Zuma set the procurement of 9.6GW of nuclear power as a top priority of his second term of office but political and legal opposition and controversy has held up the process. (Business Day)

-- More African National Congress (ANC) structures are seemingly against an early elective conference than for it.

The party's youth league made the call for it in August, following the ANC's poor showing in the local government elections. It said an overhaul of the leadership would help the party win back support. (News24)

-- State Security Agency analyst Busisiwe Mkhwebane has been approved by the National Assembly to become the new Public Protector, with only the Democratic Alliance voting against her.
