Tokyo stocks retreat in morning on yen's rise, lack of cues

Tokyo stocks lost ground Thursday morning over the yen's comparatively weak strength while some investors hit the sidelines ahead of the Bank of Japan's new policy measures.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 41.39 points, or 0.24 percent, from Wednesday to 16,971.05.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 3.05 points, or 0.23 percent, to 1,346.48.

Notable issues that declined by the morning break comprised insurance, iron and steel, and service-linked stocks. Endit
