China, Samoa vow to further promote ties

China and Samoa have agreed to enhance exchanges and cooperation between the two sides, according to reports reaching here from the Samoan capital of Apia.

A Chinese delegation led by Zhang Baowen, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of National People's Congress, concluded a three-day visit to the Pacific island nation on Wednesday.

During the visit, Zhang met separately with Samoa's Head of State Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi, Acting Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata'afa and Parliament Speaker Leaupepe Taimaaiono Toleafoa Faafisi.

Since China and Samoa established diplomatic relations 41 years ago, the two countries have always been treating each other on an equal footing and been cooperating sincerely, Zhang said.

The bilateral ties have seen significant development, where the two countries' legislative bodies have been playing an active role.

Under the new circumstances, China is willing to make concerted efforts with Samoa to further enhance political mutual trust, deepen exchanges and cooperation in all fields include legislature, so that the strategic partnership between the two nations can achieve greater development, said Zhang.

Speaking highly of the bilateral ties, the Samoan side thanked China for providing long-term support and assistance to Samoa's nation building and development.

Samoa will continue its steadfast adherence to the one-China policy, and is committed to strengthening exchanges and cooperation with China in all fields in a bid to further promote the bilateral ties, the Samoan leaders told Zhang. Endit
