4 insurgents killed, 10 injured in Afghanistan's Badakhshan province

Xinhua, September 7, 2016 Adjust font size:

At least four insurgents have been killed and 10 others injured as the government forces repulsed Taliban attacks in Yaftal-e-Payan district of the northern Badakhshan province Tuesday night, spokesman for provincial government Ahmad Nawed Farotan said Wednesday.

"A group of Taliban rebels attacked security checkpoints in Duaba neighborhood in Yaftal-e-Payan district late last night and the security forces returned fire forcing militants to flee after leaving four bodies behind," Farotan told Xinhua.

Ten more militants sustained injuries in the firefight that lasted for a while, according to the official.

Taliban attack on some villages in Shuhada district was also repulsed on the same night, the official added.

Without commenting on the possible casualties of security personnel, Farotan contended that the government forces would pursue the armed militants elsewhere in the mountainous Badakhshan province to restore law and order there.

Taliban militants who are active in parts of Badakhshan and the neighboring Takhar and Kunduz provinces haven't commented on the situation. Enditem
