Portugal's President of the National Authority of Civil Protection resigned on Tuesday over a probe involving the Kamov helicopters scandal, Portuguese Lusa News Agency reported.

Francisco Grave Pereira presented his resignation to the minister of internal administration on Monday, and it was accepted.

Portugal's judicial police have been carrying out searches across Portugal due to alleged corruption in a fire-fighting helicopter deal.

According to newspaper Diario de Noticias, Pereira was accused in a report by the general inspector of internal administration for breaching responsibility in the way he managed the process of transferring six Kamov helicopters to the company Everjets. Endit
