Urgent: Explosion rocks central Kabul, casualties unknown

An explosion rocked central Kabul late Monday night with unknown casualties, witnesses and sources said early Tuesday.

"A big explosion went off in Shar-e-Naw locality in central Kabul roughly at 11:15 p.m. Monday (local time). So far, we have no more details, but we will try to get more information," a security source told Xinhua.

Witnesses said they heard heavy explosion followed by gun firing.

Further details about the blast are still forthcoming amid the absence of official statement.

No group has claimed responsibility.
