Indian gov't says serious about resolving crisis in Indian-controlled Kashmir

The Indian government Monday said that it's serious about resolving the crisis in Indian-controlled Kashmir.

More than 70 people have died and over 10,000 injured in unrest in Indian-controlled Kashmir since the killing of 22-year-old Burhan Wani, Hizbul Mujahiddin's poster body for new militancy by Indian security forces.

"The central and the state governments are working to alleviate the situation in Indian-controlled Kashmir," Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh said in Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

The minister, who led an all-party parliamentary delegation to Indian-controlled Kashmir for talks with all stakeholders to resolve the crisis in the northern region, slammed separitists for not participating in the discussions.

However, Singh recapped the overall discussions with stakeholders as "positive" and also appealed to the media "to bear in mind that the goings-on in Kashmir are a concern to us all, and we need to support of everyone to overcome them."

Indian-controlled Kashmir has been on the boil since the killing of Wani as Pakistan has invited India for Foreign Secretary-level talks in Islamabad over the unrest, an offer rejected by New Delhi.

Both India and Pakistan claim Kashmir, the Himalayan region divided between the two neighbors, in full and have fought at least three major wars over the northern region in the past 65 years. Endit
