Xinhua, September 5, 2016 Adjust font size:

A fire caused by arson in southern Portugal forced several elderly and disabled people to leave their homes on Sunday, local media reported.

The fire began on Saturday afternoon in Monchique, a popular tourist destination in the province of Algarve, 257 km south of the capital Lisbon.

The arson suspect, a 49-year-old man, was caught at the scene when he was setting a fire, according to police.

The man has been detained for allegedly setting several fires intentionally, the newspaper Publico reported.

No homes have been affected up to now, and only one woman was slightly injured for inhaling smoke. Endi
