Rain to sweep southwest China

Moderate to heavy rain will sweep across southwest China in the coming two days, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) said on Sunday.

From Sunday evening to Tuesday, some areas in the provinces of Sichuan and Yunnan, as well as Tibet Autonomous Region will see rainstorms, with precipitation of up to 70 millimeters.

One person missing in following heavy rain in southwest China's Jiangcheng County, Yunnan Province, local authorities said Sunday.

The rain started Friday and by 4 p.m. Saturday had damaged 36 roads and 97 houses, causing direct economic losses of nearly 8 million yuan (about 1.2 million U.S.dollars).

The NMC cautioned local authorities to guard against possible geological disasters. Endi
