Myanmar's Panglong Conference produces good outcome: committee member

Xinhua, September 4, 2016 Adjust font size:

The 21st Century Panglong Conference in Myanmar has produced good outcome with common consent reached, U Zaw Htay, member of the Committee for Holding Panglong Conference, said on Saturday.

The common consent includes aspiration for building a union of federal system and coordination under the guideline of Nationwide Ceasefire Accord (NCA).

The four-day conference called for prompt implementation of peace without delay and coordination of diversified stances and opinions expressed at the conference.

"Obvious challenges arising from the conference go to that how to bring in non-signatories to the NCA," he said, adding that if they are not included in the political dialogue, there will be no peace.

U Sai Kyaw Nyunt, member of the Committee for Holding the Panglong Conference, blamed the constitutional problem for the absence of peace.

Aung San Suu Kyi who is also chairperson of Union Peace Dialogue Joint Committee (UPDJC) expected that those people who see the past can turn to look at the future.

Dr.Du Ja, chairman of Kachin Democracy Party, said that it can only achieve peace by drawing lessons from the past for practical coordination.

The second round of the Panglong Peace Conference will take place after six months and the stances and opinions presented by the 72 groups at the just ended conference will be kept as record for reference. Endit
