1st LD: 5 killed, 30 injured as explosion hits hometown of Philippine president

A powerful explosion rocked the downtown area of Davao City, hometown of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday night, killing five and injuring 30 people.

The blast of still unknown origin happened past 10 p.m. local time at a market area across a Catholic university in the southern Philippine city, police said.

Video footage posted by witnesses on social media showed several people, some covered in blood, being loaded to ambulances. Firetrucks and police cars were also seen on the scene of explosion.

Police are still conducting an investigation into the incident. Endit
