Tokyo shares close mixed ahead of U.S. jobs report

Tokyo shares closed mixed Friday with investors in a wait-and-see mood ahead of the U.S. jobs report for August due out later in the day.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended down 1.16 points, or 0.01 percent, from Thursday at 16,925.68.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 3.38 points, or 0.25 percent, higher at 1,340.76.

Gainers were led by insurance, and electric power and gas issues, while decliners were led by precision instrument and glass and ceramic issues.

The day's turnover was about 1,867.3 billion yen (around 18.07 billion U.S. dollars). Endit
