Tokyo shares open lower ahead of U.S. jobs data report

Tokyo shares opened lower Friday as the yen's depreciation halted ahead of a U.S. jobs report for August due out later in the day.

As of 9:15 a.m, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 29.49 points, or 0.17 percent, from Thursday to 16,897.35.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 0.52 points, or 0.04 percent, to 1,336.86.

Decliners were led by mining, nonferrous metal, and iron and steel issues. Endit
