The crisis of the Dutch national soccer team continued on Thursday with a 2-1 loss to Greece in a friendly in Eindhoven.
The Dutch started well and opened the scoring with Georginio Wijnaldum finishing a cross by striker Vincent Janssen in the 14th minute. The Dutch gave away the initiative in the remainder of the first half.
Kostantinos Mitroglou headed in a cross by Vassilis Torosidis in the 29th minute to make it 1-1. In the second half Greece took the lead through Giannis Gianniotas in the 74th minute. After Dutch defender Jeffrey Bruma lost the ball, Mitroglou fired on Dutch goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet and Gianniotas converted the rebound.
Greeked booked their first ever win against the Netherlands in 9 encounters. The Dutch have now lost five consecutive home games, for the first time since 1933.
The Netherlands start the 2018 World Cup qualification campaign on Tuesday against Sweden in Solna, Sweden. Greece begin against Gibraltar in Faro. Portugal. Endit
