Georgia on Thursday officially launched a multinational military drill codenamed "Agile Spirit 2016" with five other countries in southern Georgia's Akhaltsikhe.

Troops from the United States, Bulgaria, Latvia, Ukraine and Romania will participate in the command post and field exercises to support the regional security, improve defensive and offensive operation skills, the Defense Ministry of Georgia said.

The nine-day exercises will include live-fire training events with the participation of Georgian tanks and U.S. marine armored vehicles, as well as anti-tank guided TOW missile systems, said the ministry.

"This training is a symbol that Georgia, Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria and the U.S. are not standing alone and we are doing great job. I am very glad that friendship will be forged here that is very important for future success," said Chief of General Staff of Georgia, Major-General Vakhtang Kapanadze at the opening ceremony.

Agile Spirit Exercise was initially an annual bilateral military drill held by Georgia and the United States, which began in 2011. Endit
