Chinese telecom giant launches mid-range phones targeting Kenyan youth

Xinhua, September 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

Chinese information and communications technology solution provider, Huawei, on Thursday launched four mid-level smart phones in the Kenyan market that target the youth.

The handsets are part of the firm's strategy to tap into the lucrative youth segment and at the same time grow its market share.

The four new devices, in the Y and G series, will retail between 80 U.S. dollars and 250 dollars and feature five inch touchscreens and high megapixel cameras among other specifications.

"The youth market is untapped with a great potential for Huawei to continue positioning various products and services to this target group," Huawei Sales Director Dharmaraj Diwakar said during the launch in Nairobi.

Diwakar said the company's strategy is focused on embedding powerful features in the mid-range devices at an affordable price to accommodate consumers' lifestyle.

"We believe that offering unique features on a device that are able to seamlessly fit within consumers' lifestyle at an affordable price are key elements of marketing strategy in the mid-range level," he said.

Huawei has increased its visibility by partnering with various retail stores to make available most of its devices closer to the consumers, and has expanded across the Kenya by opening several services centers in major urban areas in the country. Endit
