Macedonia to hold early general elections in December

Macedonia's four main political parties have agreed to hold early parliamentary elections on Dec. 11, the Macedonian Information Agency reported Thursday.

Accordingly, the parliament will be dissolved and an interim government will be formed to organize the snap elections.

Macedonia saw a political crisis in February 2015, when the opposition started releasing recorded tapes, which are said to reveal government-sanctioned illegal surveillance of some 20,000 people. Then Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski denied such allegations, saying that the tapes were fabricated by unnamed foreign intelligence services and given to the opposition in order to destabilize the country.
