Ghana to play Russia in international friendly

Xinhua, September 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

Ghana will play Russia in an international friendly match next week, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced here on Wednesday.

The match will be played in Moscow next Tuesday, three days after Ghana's final Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda on Saturday.

It will serve as Ghana's preparations for their 2018 World Cup qualifiers which begin on October 3 against Uganda.

Russia will be making their fourth appearance at the World Cup after three previous qualifications in 1994, 2002 and 2014 and an automatic qualification for 2018 as host of the tournament.

Ghana, on the other hand, is seeking to make a fourth successive appearance at the global soccer event and needs to qualify ahead of Group E opponents Congo, Uganda and Egypt. Endit
