In a congratulatory note to his Malaysian counterpart Najib Razak, Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama extended the Fijian people and government's well wishes.

"Dear prime minister, on behalf of the Fijian government and Fijian people, I have the honor to extend my warmest congratulations as Malaysia celebrates the 59th year of your independence," Bainimarama told Najib.

"We are especially keen to strengthen our economic relationship and attract more Malaysian investment to Fiji. And I look forward to working with you to expand these ties in the months and years ahead," the Fijian prime minister added, thanking Malaysia for its assistance to Fiji over the years especially in the areas of technical and defense cooperation.
