2 Turkish men sentenced in Vietnam for asset appropriation

A Vietnamese court on Tuesday handed down a jail term of five years to each of the two Turkish citizens who used 130 fake ATM cards to withdraw 13,400 U.S. dollars in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Court gave the sentence to the two men named Hakan and Emrah.

According to investigation results, the two Turkish men are members of an international ring which has used fake ATM cards to withdraw money from banks in many countries, including Vietnam.

From Feb. 5 to 13, 2015, they used the fake ATM cards to conduct 409 transactions at ATMs of many banks in the city, withdrawing 300 million Vietnamese dong and then changing them into U.S. dollars.

After being caught red-handed on Feb. 13, 2015, the two men confessed that they had received fake cards from another Turkish national. Enditem
