Tokyo stocks close slightly lower as investors secure gains

Xinhua, August 30, 2016 Adjust font size:

Tokyo stocks edged lower by the close of play on Tuesday as after choppy trade investors opted to lock in profits, although a comparatively weaker yen underpinned the overall market and supported exporter-issues.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 12.13 points, or 0.07 percent, from Monday to end the day at 16,725.36.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edged down 0.43 point, or 0.03 percent, to close at 1,312.81.

Notable issues that closed in negative territory comprised land transportation, information and communication, and miscellaneous product-linked stocks.

The days turnover was 1,678.3 billion yen (16.43 billion U.S. dollars). Endit
