Hong Kong records 188 HIV cases in Q2

Xinhua, August 30, 2016 Adjust font size:

A total of 188 new cases of HIV infection were reported in Hong Kong in the second quarter of 2016, bringing the total of reported HIV infections since 1984 to 8,053, Hong Kong's Center for Health Protection said on Tuesday.

Of the 188 cases, 98 acquired the infection through homosexual or bisexual contact; 35 via heterosexual contact and one through drug injection.

The routes of transmission of the remaining 54 cases have yet to be determined due to inadequate information.

The 188 cases comprise 163 males and 25 females.

The center's consultant Wong Ka-hing said sexual transmission remained the major mode of HIV transmission in Hong Kong. Enditem
