Ajax attract Krul on loan as replacement for Cillessen

Xinhua, August 26, 2016 Adjust font size:

Ajax signed Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul on loan until the end of the season, the Dutch club announced on Thursday.

The 28-year-old Krul succeeds Jasper Cillessen, who left Ajax for FC Barcelona. The 27-year-old Cillessen signed a five-year contract at Barcelona, after both clubs agreed a deal on Thursday.

At Ajax, Dutch international Krul will continue the last phase of his recovery from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament, suffered in October 2015 with the Dutch national team. Together with the loan deal he also agreed a one-year contract extension at Newcastle until the summer of 2018.

Krul joined Newcastle from ADO Den Haag in mid-2005 at the age of 17 and made his first team debut in November 2006. After loan spells at Falkirk and Carlisle United, he established himself as first choice goalkeeper ahead of the 2011/12 season. He has never played at the highest Dutch league level yet. Endit
