Switzerland urged to be more transparent in political funding

The Strasbourg-based Council of Europe on Thursday urged the federal government of Switzerland to make itself more transparent in party and election campaign funding.

The Council of Europe, the continent's leading human rights organisation, said in a report Switzerland has achieved real progress in implementing the group's recommendations on incrimination.

However, the federal government is maintaining its position of "not legislating on the transparency of party and election campaign funding".

Switzerland has satisfactorily implemented five out of eleven recommendations, namely all those relating to incrimination, but not a single one on the transparency of political funding, the report added. Endit
