A district court of Finland sentenced a female teacher to imprisonment for child sexual abuse and dereliction of duty, reported Finnish national broadcaster Yle on Thursday.

The teacher, who worked in Vantaa, southern Finland, allegedly had sexual relations with two underage pupils in the period 2012-2016.

According to the Vantaa district court, the woman first had sex with and touched a pupil aged 13-15 years old, and later made sexual acts with a 12 to 13-year-old child.

The court believed that the teacher was found guilty of aggravated sexual offenses against minors and aggravated misuse of office position. The woman was sentenced to three years and eight months in prison.

In addition, she was ordered to pay to one victim 10,000 euros (11,281 U.S. dollars) for spiritual loss and approximately 6,800 euros of legal costs. She paid another pupil 13,000 euros for moral damages, 5,000 euros of temporary psychological disturbances, as well as about 6,100 euros of legal costs.

The city of Vantaa said in a statement on Thursday that the teacher would no longer work for the city. (1 euro = 1.12 U.S. dollars) Enditem
