Ireland captain Robbie Keane announced on Wednesday he will retire from international career after a friendly match with Oman on Aug. 31 in Dublin's Avaya Stadium.

The 36-year-old Keane made his senior international debut back in 1998. He played at the 2002 FIFA World Cup and the Euro in 2012 and 2016.

Keane has played for Ireland 145 appearances over the span of 18 years, with a record 67 goals to make him Ireland's all-time leading goal scorer.

The Irish joined the MLS side LA Galaxy in 2011. While announcing his international retirement, he showed his intention to play for the Galaxy for several more seasons.

"I love my time playing with LA Galaxy and intend to focus my energies on continuing my club football for a few more seasons," Keane wrote in a statement. Enditem
