Germany's benchmark DAX index closes higher

The benchmark DAX index at Frankfurt Stock Exchange on Wednesday went up slightly and closed at 10,622.97 points.

Bank shares drove the blue-chip DAX index up and investors are in a buying mood, according to local analysts. The DAX index added 30.09 points, or 0.28 percent.

Commerzbank and Deutsche Bank led the risers' list, up by 3.2 percent and 2.34 percent. Deutsche Lufthansa advanced by 2.24 percent. Deutsche Post climbed by 1.59 percent. Linde, an industrial gas company, went up by 1.5 percent.

On the other hand, Vonovia, a real estate company, lost 1.16 percent. Deutsche Boerse fell by 1.07 percent. Infineon Technologies, a semiconductor producer, dropped by 0.62 percent. Adidas plunged by 0.58 percent and Thyssenkrupp slipped by 0.54 percent.

Siemens was the most traded share of the day with a turnover of 198.88 million euros (around 222.7 million U.S. dollars). Endit
