Saudi Arabia foils terrorist attack on restaurant

Xinhua, August 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

Saudi Arabia announced on Wednesday the foiling of a fresh attack on a busy restaurant in the predominantly Shiite Eastern Province, Al Arabiya local news reported.

Police found a gun and an explosive belt after the arrest, with the suspects confirming a planned attack at 11 p.m. local time (2000 GMT) Wednesday.

The suspects also confirmed their connection to the Islamic State (IS) militant group.

It was the second foiled attempt in the district after the police thwarted a suicide bombing the day before on a mosque in Qatif.

The restaurant is a hot spot where local tourists come for traditional food.

The two recent attacks were among tens of terrorist attacks, including a number of bloody blasts in recent years in different parts of Saudi Arabia claimed by the IS. Endit
