Police in Tanzania on Wednesday announced a manhunt for the gunmen who killed four police officers on Tuesday on the outskirts of the commercial capital Dar es Salaam.
Nsato Mssanzya, the Commissioner of Police for Training and Operations, said the gunmen attacked police officers guarding a bank, adding that the assassins did neither steal nor destroy property of the bank.
"However, the gunmen grabbed two firearms and 60 rounds of ammunition from the police officers after they had killed them," Mssanzya told a news conference, adding that two civilians were also wounded in the brawl.
"These killings were purely targeted on the police officers and nothing else," said the Commissioner of Police.
The Minister for Home Affairs, Mwigulu Nchemba, condemned the killings of the police officers and vowed to hunt down the gunmen who were still at large.
The minister appealed to members of the public to give any information that will lead to the arrest of the gunmen.
In July 2015, gunmen shot dead four police officers and three civilians at a police station in Dar es Salaam.
They also seized weapons and ammunition in a raid on the police station. Endit
