Austria international Dragovic joins Leverkusen

Xinhua, August 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

Bayer Leverkusen have completed the transfer of centre back Aleksandar Dragovic, the "Werkself" confirmed in an official statement on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old defender joined from Ukrainian club FC Dynamo Kyiv after putting pen to paper on a five-year deal, which keeps him until June 2021 in Leverkusen.

"The Bundesliga is one of the best leagues in the world," Dragovic said. "The fact that I transferred to a top-flight club, and a UEFA Champions League participant is fantastic."

Leverkusen's new arrival played three years for Kyiv and made 66 appearances. Dragovic is since 2009 part of Austria's national squad where he provided one goal in 38 caps.

"With Aleksandar Dragovic we have signed a very experienced central defender," Leverkusen's sporting director Rudi Voeller said. "He brings a lot of quality and will increase the quality of our squad."
