Shanghai SIPG to sustain injuries blow before ACL quarter-final first leg

Xinhua, August 22, 2016 Adjust font size:

Chinese Super League (CSL) club Shanghai SIPG have to face South Korea' s Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in the Asian Champions League (ACL) quarter-final first leg at home on Tuesday with crucial players sidelined by injuries.

Dario Conca, the chief playmaker for the Shanghai side, injured his knee in SIPG's 4-1 CSL win over Shijiazhuang Everbright on Friday. Sven-Goran Eriksson, the club' s head coach, gave no date for his return.

Also on the injury list is Hulk who moved to SIPG from Zenit St Petersburg last month, costing the Shanghai side 55 million euros ($61 million). The 31-year-old Brazilian striker injured himself on his CSL debut and has not played since.

When asked if Hulk was ready to return for the ACL clash, Eriksson said, "I am not sure that he will play, maybe, maybe not, let's see." Endit
