5 detained in attempt to enter Israeli consulate in Istanbul

Xinhua, August 22, 2016 Adjust font size:

Five people were detained early Monday morning when they tried to sneak into the Israeli consulate building in Istanbul in protest against Israel's airstrikes on Gaza.

A group of people arrived in front of the consulate at around 2:30 local time (2330 GMT Sunday) to protest against the latest air raids on the Gaza Strip, reports said.

Additional security measures have been taken around the consulate, the Hurriyet daily reported.

The Israeli army fired missiles into two Hamas positions in northern Gaza Strip on Sunday, after a rocket was fired from the Palestinian territory into southern Israel, according to media reports. Endit
