Jenny Rissveds of Sweden won the women's mountain bike at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games here on Saturday.

The 22-year-old worked into a leading trio of riders in lap three and then attacked in lap six to ride to victory in one hour 30 minutes and 15 seconds.

"This year, I crashed in training, and ended up with six stitches in my knee and four in my elbow and I thought this is not going to work at all," said Rissveds.

Rissveds claimed Sweden's second gold in Rio after swimmer Sarah Sjostrom won the 100m butterfly.

"At the start line today, I tried to focus and have some great fun, stay cool and just race my bike. This is for sure the biggest achievement in my career. It is just unbelievable." added Rissveds.

Maja Wloszczowska of Poland took the silver, while the bronze went to Catharine Pendrel of Canada. Endit
