Large number of hotspots detected in Indonesia's Borneo

The number of forest fire hotspots rose significantly in Indonesia, particularly in Borneo Island as the country has been on alert.

The Terra and Aqua satellite from NASA on Saturday detected 235 hotspots across the archipelago country, with 219 of them being in one of the country's main islands of Borneo, the Indonesian Meteorology and Geophysics Agency website said.

A total of 15 hotspots were found in Maluku Island and Papua, nine in Flores Island, four in Sumatra Island and six in Java Island, it said.

For Sumatra Island, the satellite data indicated that the measures to douse the blaze in Island which had been on alarming level in recent days have been fruitful.

Indonesia has deployed soldiers, police and firefighter to the forest fire-affected areas in the island.

Last year, Indonesia dispatched over 22,000 soldiers and dozens of aircraft with the international assistance to put out the forest fires across the nation that killed 17 people and sent thick haze to neighboring countries. Endit
