At least seven people, including four children, were killed and three others injured after a house collapsed due to heavy rain in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh on Saturday, a senior police official said.

"The incident happened in the Rahatgarh area of the state's Sagar district that has been hit by incessant rains since late Friday night. The victims who belonged to two families, were fast asleep when the house collapsed early this morning," the official said on condition of anonymity.

Among the three injured, one is in serious condition, the official said.
