Fire sweeps cotton factory in Bangladesh

A devastating fire raced through a multi-story cotton factory in Gazipur on the outskirts of Bangladeshi capital Dhaka, an official said on Saturday.

The fire department official, who declined to be named said, as many as 13 fire-fighting units have been striving to put off the blaze that broke out early Saturday in the factory operated by Tropical KnitTex(BD) Ltd, a subsidiary of local Mondol Group.

There was no loss of life, he said.

Sources said firefighters were still combating the blaze, which was not under full control yet.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.

The eight-story factory building has developed some cracks due to the blaze.
