African health ministers, who are attending a WHO conference in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa, are expected to consider a 106.8 million U.S. dollars strategy to tackle disease outbreaks and public health emergencies on the continent.
In devising a comprehensive strategy, WHO's Africa Regional Office mapped out 1,779 epidemics and outbreaks and catalogued more than 100 annual public health emergencies in member states, said a WHO statement released in connection with the meeting in Addis. (Ethiopia-Health)

CAPE TOWN -- A military bus crashed in central South Africa on Friday, killing 10 soldiers on board and injuring 40 others, authorities said.

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. coastal state of Florida, home to popular tourist destinations like Walt Disney World, on Friday identified a second Zika transmission area in Miami, a development that signals a local spread of the virus and prompted federal officials to issue a new travel advisory immediately.

BEIRUT -- Lebanon asked the country's mission to UN to file a complaint to the Security Council about Israel's incursions in the southern towns of Ghajar and Shebaa Farms, the National News Agency (NNA) reported Friday.

KIGALI -- Rwandan Police killed three suspected terrorists in a shootout in Rusizi district, western Rwanda, Friday, in an operation targeting youth in radicalization activities.
