Russia takes fifth consecutive Olympic gold in synchronized swimming team event

Russian synchronized swimming team took their fifth consecutive Olympic title in team event at Rio Olympic Games here on Friday.

The Russian team earned the highest score of 99.1333 points in free routine on Friday so as to finish first with a total score of 196.1439 points.

Russia has won every edition of this event since the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

"We cried after the performance, you could say we were bawling, because we understood perfectly that we executed our program well," said Svetlana Romashina, who also won the duet event two days ago.

China grabbed the silver as they did four years ago in London in 192.9841 points, followed by Japan in 189.2056 points.

Romashina, 26, has won five gold medals in three Olympic Gamess.

"To be honest, when we got the fourth medal at this Olympic Games, we thought that we were still missing one medal to make the Olympic rings. Now we have the five rings," she said. Endit
