Morocco, UAE agree to bolster transportation cooperation

Xinhua, August 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

Morocco and UAE signed on Thursday memorandum of understanding to bolster transportation cooperation and road safety.

Under this agreement signed by the Moroccan Ministry of Equipment, Transportation and Logistics and the UAE's Emirates Driving Institute (EDI), the two countries agreed to develop the Moroccan-Emirati cooperation in the field of transportation and road safety.

The agreement seeks mainly to initiate joint research programs on transportation and road safety and share their experiences, especially in relation with modern techniques of transportation.

The 25-year-old EDI is recognized internationally as the largest and most successful driving institute in Dubai and Middle East.

Deadly traffic accidents are common in Morocco. According to data from the Moroccan Transport Ministry, a total of 3,565 people were killed in the country last year.

The ministry has adopted a new strategy 2015-2025 vowing to reduce the victims of accidents by 50 percent. Endit
